Date: Launch Night Wednesday 19th July 2017
Venue: The Blue Room, The Dean Dublin, Dublin 2
We love art at The Dean and we love to get you guys involved with as much of the Dean art environment as possible. We strive to create and maintain an inspiring environment for all of our guests to enjoy. We are the on-going hospitality partner of IMMA, a collaboration that fosters an artistic environment for artists and art-lovers alike. Our walls are lined with cutting edge original works from over 40 Irish artists.
The Blue Room, our event space, has recently been the spot to be to catch some amazing artists’ exhibitions. We launched the Solus & DMC collaboration, two of Ireland’s best known street artists who transitioned to exhibition style art last summer. Earlier this year, we launched The Dean ArtKicks, our art initiative based on the popularity of exhibitions and our continuing commitment to art and creativity. Our very first exhibition as a part of this initiative was by the incredible Rasher (AKA R.M. Kavanagh) and his dynamic exhibition entitled ‘Perceptual Space’.
Now we are thrilled to bring you ‘Heavy Is The Head That Wears The Crown’ – a superb and super-exciting exhibition by Dublin artist Tag Beckett. Tag is a self-described painter, thinker, maker and doer. He has been exhibiting his work regularly over the course of the last 8 years, with shows both here and abroad. Last year, he created huge interactive installations for Castlepalooza Music and Art Festival. Tag’s usual medium thus far has been acrylics, but he has recently begun working with oils – and this will mark his very first exhibition featuring oil paintings exclusively. He will be showing 12 brand new oil paintings for ‘Heavy Is The Head That Wears The Crown’
On the cusp of turning 30, Tag explores the idea of legacy, the path that has been forged by his grandfather and father before him. ‘Heavy Is The Head That Wears The Crown’ refers to the burden of responsibility and power as Tag considers what his own legacy and societal contribution will be. What space does he currently occupy, what will his future hold? We are proud to welcome Tag to The Blue Room and cannot wait to see what will be unveiled!
The opening night is Wednesday, 19 July at 18:30 in The Blue Room @ The Dean Dublin – all welcome! Tag will be on hand to discuss his art, there’ll be music from the awesome DJ Marquis D’Alton, who’s record bag is filled to the brim with gritty soul, block party classics, discoid madness and boogie bombs! There’ll be drinks, music – and of course, stunning, thought provoking works of art from Tag Beckett. Come one, come all!
Following the opening night the exhibition will run from 19 July – 7 August. Please call our team at Reception and they’ll be happy to offer visiting times! (01) 6078110
