This amazing new exhibition from IMMA is one of its most ambitious and compelling shows yet which explores how the spiritual endures in our everyday lives.
Spanning a hundred years, the works in this exhibition includes abstract masterpieces from Kandinsky, af Klint and Kupka to contemporary works by Steve McQueen and Bruce Nauman, as well as new commissions by Alan Butler and Linder Sterling among others.
With more than 200 works by 41 artists, the exhibition presents a wide range of very different voices and geographies. These begin with the early adventures in abstraction, which reshaped our perception of the natural world at the turn of century; and move into key postwar pieces influenced by the use of psychedelic drugs and emergent technologies. A number of works by contemporary artists give a global perspective on the role of spirituality in our lives now.
The As Above, So Below exhibition extends beyond the gallery space with new works made specifically for the IMMA site and a series of performances, events, talks and film screenings taking place during the exhibition.
