Kilmainham Gaol

One of the largest uninhabited gaols (or jails) in Europe, Kilmainham Gaol opened in 1796 and closed in 1924. It was the scene of some of Ireland’s most groundbreaking and inspirational events and historic figures like Robert Emmet, Charles Stewart Parnell, the leaders of the 1916 Rising and De Valera are all associated with Kilmainham Gaol. With a major exhibition and audio-visual tours on offer, this place offers a unique insight into the history of Ireland and it’s struggles.
