The Workman’s Club
16 – 18 June
We love to keep you posted on the coolest festivals, gigs and culture events happening around Dublin and one of our favourite weekends of the year is just around the corner. The Wellington Weekender at The Workman’s Club is this weekend. Jam packed with some of best Irish music, comedy, craic, a hot wing competition, deadly DJs and loads more.
On Friday, 16 June from 8pm in The Workman’s Club, headliner Katie Kim will treat everyone to the beautiful sound of her ambient folk/pop. Supporting her will be singer/songwriter Aoife Nessa Frances. Top the night off by sticking around for some infamous Workman’s Club DJ shenanigans – til late!
Saturday, 17 June things will be kick off early from 1pm in Bison Bar and BBQ for their whiskey tasting. With over 150 whiskies behind the bar there’s no better place to sample a little wee dram! Those who are brave enough to take on the annual Bison BBQ Hot Wing Challenge, it starts at 2pm and we’ll see how hot can you handle! Last year there were tears of laughter and pain but great craic was had by all – sign up in advance firstname.lastname@example.org or rock up on the day.
There will be more class tunes throughout Saturday with The Workman’s Club Terrace acoustic set on the go from 2pm and later that night Pleasure Beach will headline the Main Venue with a bunch of special guests joining them from 8pm. Next door The Liquor Rooms will host the wonderful Katie Laffan for some of her lo-fi bedroom funk pop. After the live music, you can stick around for DJ Andy O’Connell for some serious tunes while enjoying a cocktail or two!
As for Sunday, 18 June there’ll be Hipster Bingo in The Workman’s Club This includes (but is not limited to) laughing, bingo, games and existential dread. The bearded wonder, Irish comedian of the year Steve Bennett will be the Master of Balls. Things that may happen could be ‘best dressed hipster shrug-off’, musical bingo, trying to say hipster phrases while having an unholy amount of marshmallows in your mouth, ‘real hipster band or fake hipster band’, and amongst other things maybe some actual bingo (but, with none of the “right” calls). Plus, we’ve got the fabliss Workman’s Club Comedy Club taking over The Vintage Room in The Workman’s Club! If you’ve got a hankering for awesome stand up and a belly full of laughs then we’ve got ya sorted. We’ll be bringing you some of the most hilarious and interesting acts in the country. Hosted by two legends of the Irish alternative comedy scene, Ruth Hunter and Conor O’Toole, you’ll be having the lolz in no time. (8pm)
That’s our weekend sorted – 3 days of deadly music, laughter, food. ALL FOR FREE. We’ll see you all there!
